Poetry in Conversation Alan Wearne.jpg

'Poetry In Conversation' is a chance for you to listen to some of Perth’s best poets in an interview format with Robert Wood. These sessions are designed as an introduction and exploration of how poets write, read and talk. They will feature readings of poems as well as the opportunity for you to hear about the poet’s influences, process and work. This will give you the chance to listen to the stories behind the poetry for which they are known. Come along, grab a glass of wine and settle in to hear what our best wordsmiths are up to.

The 'Poetry in Conversation' series will continue with ALAN WEARNE. Alan has been part of Australian Poetry since the late 1960s. His publications include two verse novels The Nightmarkets and The Lovemakers and a satirical novel on Melbourne and footy Kicking in Danger. His three most recent volumes are verse collections from Giramondo, The Australian Popular Songbook, Prepare The Cabin For Landing and These Things Are Real. The main concerns of his poetry are the lives and stories of urban Australia from the post-war era onward. In parallel he has been a writer of satiric verse. From 1998 to 2016 he taught at the University of Wollongong (with three Autumn semesters at Curtin University). In 2011 he founded Grand Parade poets, a successful small press which has published twelve volumes. Retired and back in Melbourne he works for a company called Narrative Verse in English, whose founder was a man called Geoff, Geoff Chaucer.

ROBERT WOOD has interned for Overland and Wild Dingo Press, worked for Australian Poetry, edited for Peril and Cordite, been a columnist for Cultural Weekly and is on the faculty of The School of Life. At present he works for the Centre for Stories.
