PEN Meeting with Dennis Haskell and Robert Wood

Hosted by Robert Wood and Dennis Haskell, this is a meeting for writers who are interested in PEN. PEN is a non profit network that seeks to protect the rights of writers and work to safeguard freedom of expression. They are involved in letter writing campaigns for writers who are in prison; they host debates on a variety of topics; they run events about writing itself. This initial meeting is to determine whether there is interest in forming a group in Perth dedicated to such a program. DENNIS HASKELL is a poet, editor and literary scholar, the author of over twenty books. He is the recipient of the Western Australia Premier’s Prize for Poetry, the A A Phillips Prize for a distinguished contribution to Australian literature, an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from The University of Western Australia and is a Member of the Order of Australia for “services to literature, particularly poetry, to education and to intercultural understanding”. He was President of Perth PEN when the old Centre existed, and is currently a member of the Board of writingWA.

ROBERT WOOD has interned for Overland and Wild Dingo Press, worked for Australian Poetry, edited for Peril and Cordite, been a columnist for Cultural Weekly and is on the faculty of The School of Life. At present he works for Centre for Stories.

HOW TO GET THERE

By Train : from Perth Station it is a 12-15 minute walk to the Centre for Stories.

By Bus : from Perth Busport it is also a 12-15 minute walk to Centre for Stories.

Driving: there are lots of carparks within walking distance

(i) Wilson Parking just behind us, entry off Errichetti Place which is off Zempilas Lane which runs between Newcastle Street or Aberdeen Streets. Cost: $11.00 for 1-2 hour and $2.00 per hour thereafter.

(ii) City of Perth Carpark, runs across two streets and can be entered via 104 Francis Street or 121 Aberdeen Street is a five minute walk to the Centre. Cost : $4 per hour.

(iii) City of Perth State Library Carpark on 15 Francis Street, Perth. Cost : $4 per hour.
