IN CONVERSATION: LIZ BYRSKI AND DAI FAN

Join us on July 25th for a conversational interview between Liz Byrski and Dai Fan. At this event the two writers will discuss the passions and interests that drive their writing practices in both fiction and non-fiction. Hosted in partnership with Curtin University’s China Australia Writing Centre, take this opportunity to join us for an enlightening and entertaining conversation.

Liz Byrski is the Senior Fellow and former Director of the China Australia Writing Centre, and an Associate Professor in the School of Media, Culture and Creative Arts at Curtin University.  Liz is the author of nine novels including Gang of Four and The Woman Next Door, and more than a dozen non-fiction books including Remember Me and In Love and War: Nursing Heroes, and the essay/memoir Getting On: Some Thoughts on Women and Ageing.

Liz is a former journalist and ABC Radio broadcaster, and has taught creative and professional writing, and journalism at Curtin University.  She was an advisor to a minister in the Western Australian Government and is a former President of the WA Women’s Advisory Council to the Premier.

Dai Fan is professor of English and founding director of the Sun Yat-sen University Center for English-language Creative Writing. She was a 2012-2013 Fulbright researcher of the nonfiction program at University of Iowa. She has taught one of the few creative writing courses in English as a foreign language at Sun Yat-sen University since 2009, as well as a bilingual creative writing course since 2015. She publishes in both Chinese and English, with four collections of essays in Chinese, and the novel Butterfly Lovers in English. Her work in English has appeared in magazines in the United States, Australia, and Hong Kong. She runs the Sun Yat-sen University Writers’ Residency, a program that combines the time for writing with the teaching of creative writing, literary and cultural exchanges.
