SOLD OUT :: FOOD FOR THOUGHT :: VIETNAMESE FEAST

  • The Centre for Stories 100 Aberdeen Street Northbridge, WA, 6003 Australia (map)

TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT HAVE NOW SOLD OUT.

Food for Thought is a monthly dinner that hopes to raise funds to support detained or recently settled asylum seekers through the celebration of food, culture and the sharing of stories. Every last Thursday of the month, a new community will come together and cook for 40 guests in a welcoming, comfortable and friendly environment.

RRAN and Centre for Stories join together to make this night possible. The dinners recognise and pay refugee and asylum-seeker men and women for the skills they have cultivated in the home. Food for Thought empowers people who have sought asylum in Australia to share their experiences and provides an opportunity to meet good people in a comfortable and welcoming environment.

Following the Vietnam War, hundreds of thousands of people fled Vietnam by boat, and as a result there is now a well-established Vietnamese community in Australia. What is less widely known is that for some groups of people, Vietnam is still not a safe place to live. Phuong and Phap will join us for our sixth dinner. Both arrived in Australia by boat – Phuong was forced to leave her home and arrived in Australia in 1983, while Phap has taken the journey in more recent years. While decades separate their experiences, there are similarities and differences that speak to what it means to leave 'home' in Vietnam and adjust to life in Australia. Please join us as they share stories from home and beyond, while we indulge in a feast of delicious Vietnamese cuisine.

We would love to see you there, and we appreciate your donation to help us along. If the cost of the ticket is stopping you from coming along, please email us and we'll do our best to reserve a seat for you.

Please support us and people who remain in immigration detention and be rewarded with great food, fantastic company and a lovely night out.

We hope to see you there!
