World Poetry Day

  • Forrest Place Perth, WA, 6000 Australia (map)

Perth’s early morning commuters are set to become ‘well versed’ in the universal language of poetry thanks to a unique celebration planned for World Poetry Day on March 21.

One thousand school kids, workers and shoppers will be given a hand-written haiku poem – created specially for the occasion by 40 West Australian poets, and attached to a fresh flower to underscore the original nature of the annual event.

The global celebration comes into focus in Perth this year courtesy of the Centre for Stories and WA Poets Inc (WAPI) who collaborated with the aim of connecting people through the gift of poetry.

Roving volunteers from both organisations will hand out the ‘poetic blooms’ in both Murray Street and Hay Street malls between 7.30am-8.30am.

City of Perth is proudly supporting the World Poetry Day celebration and local artist and floral lover Alina Tang designed a card specifically for the poetry inscription.
