Bread & Butter is a monthly dinner and storytelling event designed to make you think deeply about social issues. A new storyteller every month will share a personal story with 40 guests in the dining room at the Centre for Stories. Come along and make new friends, hear a new story, and get to know your community. Compulsory: open ears and an open mind. This month's storyteller: Emanuel Gherardi.
The son of Italian Immigrants, Emanuel Gherardi’s story begins long before he was born with events that transpired against the backdrop of World War II Italy and shaped many lives across many decades, travelling with them some thirteen thousand kilometres to Perth, Western Australia. He will share a story that spans almost 80 years and deals with illegitimate children and unknown biological parents; a pattern that repeated itself across two generations and led to living under an umbrella of pain, guilt, shame and lies. He talks of marriage failures, business success, losing absolutely everything and re-building from the ground up with nothing but the hope that he can build a new truth for himself and his children.
On the menu for this instalment of Bread & Butter is an Italian feast!
