Hear debut authors paired with established authors talk candidly about their journeys to publication: their highs and lows, friends lost, and amount of wine and chocolate consumed during the writing process. Survival techniques and tips will be shared on how to handle your editor and publisher, and what to do when you don’t find your book on the best sellers list. Authors will confess to their innermost fears and share their vulnerabilities.
This month we will hear from two short story writers turned novelists.
Laurie Steed is the debut author of You Belong Here (Margaret River Press 2018). His fiction has been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and has appeared in Best Australian Stories, Award Winning Australian Writing, The Review of Australian Fiction, The Age, Meanjin, Westerly, Island, The Sleepers Almanac, and elsewhere.
Susan Midalia has published three collections of short stories: A History of the Beanbag (UWAP 2007), shortlisted for the Western Australian Premier’s Book Award; An Unknown Sky ( UWAP 2012); and Feet to the Stars and other stories (UWAP 2015), shortlisted for the 2016 WA Premier’s Book Awards. Her novel The Art of Persuasion was recently published by Fremantle Press.
Books will be for sale on the night.
Wine sponsored by Scott Claxton.
