Stories Beyond the Lens is a monthly event which allows emerging and established photographers to share the story behind a selection of their photographs.

With a focus on international locations, in particular the Indian Ocean, Stories Beyond the Lens showcases a kaleidoscope of unique photographs every month to an intimate audience. The photographs will be accessible at the Centre for Stories for one month and will be available for purchase.

This month, we feature two fantastic photographers! Ann Jones will share photos and stories from Myanmar. Steve Crossley will share photos and stories from Cambodia.

Ann Jones is a retired psychologist who loves travelling. Her interest in photography grew from a desire to bring a creative dimension to her life. For many years, as a single parent, she didn’t have much opportunity for travel. However, in the past 10 years, her twin passions of travel and photography have taken her to various destinations in Europe as well as Africa, China, Vietnam, India, Bhutan, US, Japan, Singapore, Thailand. She visited Myanmar just prior to the 2015 elections when there appeared to be such hope for this fascinating country, which had been isolated for so long. Unfortunately more recent political events again make it less appealing as a holiday destination.

Steve Crossley is a medical physicist that works in radiology. Steve has been a member of the WA Camera Club for 6 years. After travelling to Cambodia with his wife and seeing the devastating conditions many animals, such as sun bears and moon bears, were living in, they decided to put their specific skill set to good use. Steve and his wife set up a working clinic for veterinarians in Cambodia to treat ill and recently freed animals. Steve's photography reflects the urgent need for animal care, rehabilitation, and freedom.

Any profits from the sale of Steve's photographs will be donated to Free the Bears.

Nibbles and drink provided.
