Westerly is excited to announce its collaboration with The Highly Strung Players for an evening of poetry and plays!

The evening will feature poetry readings from four emerging poets: Chris Arnold and Alexis Lateef, participants from our 2016 Writers’ Development Program, Online Special Issue Westerly: Crossings guest editor Amy Hilhorst, and contributor Robert Wood. These excellent poets will be reading from their own work, followed by a dramatic rehearsed reading of two recent short works by The Highly Strung Players.

The Highly Strung Players, based in Melbourne, are an ensemble dedicated to the performance of works of absurdist drama, past and present. On the night they will present two recent works: Waste by Shannon Burns, and The Ones After Them by Peter Rose. The works will be performed by Francesca Sasnaitis and Peter Rose.

Peter Rose has published six poetry collections, two novels, and a family memoir, Rose Boys, which won the 2003 National Biography Award. He is currently writing a series of duologues and also works as the Editor of Australian Book Review. Shannon Burns is an Adelaide-based writer and former ABR Patron’s Fellow who has published short fiction, poetry, and academic articles. He has previously been awarded the Adelaide Review Short Fiction Prize in 2009, and the Salisbury Writers’ Festival Short Story Prize in 2015. Francesca Sasnaitis is a Perth writer and a PhD student at the University of Western Australia. Her poetry, short fiction and reviews have been published online, and in various print journals and anthologies.

Tickets are $15 and are available here.
