The Politics of Our Day with Robert Wood is an ongoing book club featuring non-fiction books for the person who likes history, politics and current affairs.

Our first book Listen, Liberal examines contemporary American politics. Focusing on the professional classes and their relationship with the Democrats, Thomas Frank  provides a provocative and engaging account of the last two decades. He covers issues such as the housing affordability crisis, Wall Street bailouts and progressive successes in a knowledgeable and informed account. This will add to your understanding of Donald Trump’s electoral win and help us identify what makes tomorrow’s America a place with challenges and opportunities.

Thomas Frank was trained as a historian. He has been the editor of The Baffler and authored the popular book What’s the Matter With Kansas?

Robert Wood has interned for Overland and Wild Dingo Press, worked for Australian Poetry, edited for Peril and Cordite, been a columnist for Cultural Weekly and is on the faculty of The School of Life. At present he works for the Centre for Stories.

Please read the book prior to the event. The Centre for Stories preferred bookstore is Boffins. We value our local book sellers and think they are an important part of the literary community. Boffins may not stock all of the books in our book club or the authors from our events, but you can order books through them and they will tend to your needs in a timely fashion. Please visit them here. Mention our name for 10% off!
