'Stories from Country' is a series of live storytelling events from Aboriginal storytellers presented in collaboration with Community Arts Network.
Yorgas share stories of family and place behind their contemporary art and craft pieces. We’ll be joined by three artists with varying practices. They have all been part of Community Arts Network creative cultural development projects with Noongar communities. Their stories draw on their craft and art pieces created during these projects.
Amanda Bell participated in Community Art Network's Keyen Koondarm (One Dream) portrait painting project in Busselton in 2016. She lives and loves near the ocean and the tall Tuart trees, and describes herself as “an ageing rebel that might one day grow up”.
Marcelle Riley has been both a participating artist and workshop facilitator for Community Arts Network for many projects. She is a Noongar artist from Wiilmen and Ballardong Boodjar. She makes dolls and does eco-dyeing and basket weaving.
Deborah Moody is a Noongar yorga Elder from the Balladong tribe. She lives in Northam and was recently ordained as a Pentecostal Pastor. She is a specialist in the Noongar language and part of the craft collective @northamyorgas
