SOLD OUT :: Food for Thought :: Afghani Feast

Food for Thought is a monthly dinner that hopes to raise funds to support detained or recently settled asylum seekers through the celebration of food, culture and the sharing of stories.  Every four weeks a new community will come together and cook for 40 guests in a welcoming, comfortable and friendly environment.

RRAN and Centre for Stories join together to make this night possible.  We are a social enterprise that employs refugee and asylum-seeker men and women.  The dinners recognise and pay them for the skills they have cultivated in the home.

Food for thought offers an opportunity for refugees on bridging visas to get involved in the community, learn some basic kitchen skills, gain some hospitality experience and meet good people in a comfortable and welcoming environment.

We definitely would love to see you there, and we appreciate your donation to help us along.  If the cost of the ticket is stopping you from coming along, please email us and we'll do our best to reserve a seat for you.

For our third installment, we focus on the cuisine of Afghanistan.  For two millennia, Afghanistan (which borders Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, China, Pakistan and Iran) was the place where important trade routes between India, China, the Middle East and Europe converged. Marco Polo crossed the country en route to China; Arab travellers and the British passed through on their way to India. A rich culture took hold at this crossroads, and with it a varied cuisine that has survived centuries of war, invasion and internal upheaval. Strife-torn Afghanistan is now an undeniably poor country, but as expatriate Afghani food lover Ryla Smith says, "some of the poorest countries in the world come up with amazing dishes". No matter how hard-pressed, the Afghans treat their guests with immense respect and will go to great lengths to serve them the best food possible.

Seats fill up fast, be sure to secure yours soon.  Apologies our website can not handle multiple purchases.  If you wish to buy more than one ticket, please do two seperate transactions - no additional transaction fees apply.

SORRY, this event has now SOLD OUT.  If you are a member of the Chef's community and would like to come along, please email us as we have reserved tickets to enable the chef's friends and family to come along.  Thank you.
